Arcata Receives Safety Award!!
Arcata's RF&ESS Team receives Chubb Safety Award.
Arcata received a Safety Award for "Outstanding Achievement in Loss Control" by Chubb & Sons, its workers' compensation carrier, at an awards ceremony on July 22, 2010 at NASA's Dryden Flight Research Center
Jeff Keely, Chubb Risk Specialist, nominated Arcata for the award after two visits that took place in 2008 and 2009. During the awards ceremony, Jeff explained that when he visited the RF&ESS program in July 2008, it was the first time in his twenty-year career that he was welcomed with a presentation providing a comprehensive overview of safety status and metrics. After his walkthrough of the RF&ESS facilities, he made a number of recommendations and suggestions including Electronic News Gathering Operations, defensive driver and ergonomics training, and guard rail installation. He was extremely impressed when he followed up the next year and all of his recommendations had been implemented. When the RF&ESS Program attained over 1.0 million hours without a lost time injury last year, Jeff nominated Arcata for the Safety Award. RF&ESS has not had a lost time case since February 2005.
"I would like to thank all of our RF&ESS employees, managers, and teammates for their support of our safety program and to extend my appreciation to Lynn Clayton, VP Human Resources, David Recce, VP RF&ESS Program, and Lisa White, RF&ESS Safety and Security Administrator, for their leadership and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment for our employees. This recognition would not have been possible without the priority on safety and teamwork established with our NASA customers and the partnership we have with our insurance broker, Jenkins Insurance Group, and Chubb. We are extremely pleased and honored to have received this award from Chubb and to have attained 1.2 million hours without a Lost Time Case on the RF&ESS Program; however, continuing to maintain a strong safety culture is more important than the recognition or reaching this milestone," said Arcata President Tim Wong.
Chubb is a 125-year old company and has been the largest insurer of Information & Network Technology companies in the United States for the past twenty years. Less than 1% of Chubb policyholders receive this award.
