Arcata Golf Tournament Raises Over $17,000 For Edwards AFB And Tehachapi High School First Team
Arcata Associates, Inc. held its 3rd Annual Community Connections Golf Tournament on, Friday, May 2, 2008 at the Muroc Lake Golf Course, Edwards AFB, Calif. and raised $12,189.76 for the Edwards AFB Airman and Family Readiness Center and $5,000 for the Tehachapi High School FIRST Robotics Team. In the spirit of bringing the community together, the tournament included 140 golfers representing NASA, the US Air Force, contractors, corporate sponsors, and local businesses, organizations and residents from around the area.
"Two years ago at our first tournament we raised just over $4,000 for the Edwards AFB Family Advocacy Program. Last year we raised over twice that - $8,000 - for the Youth Programs Center – Boys and Girls Club at Edwards AFB. This year we increased our charitable donation by more than double! I want to thank all the people who came out today and supported this tournament. It is their generosity that has resulted in upgrades and improvements to the Edwards Youth Center and to the Family Support Program said Tournament Co-Director, Anthony Ng.
"Giving back to the community in which we live and work has always been a strong corporate value at Arcata. As one of the largest contractors at NASA Dryden Flight Research Center on Edwards AFB, Arcata chose the Airman and Family Readiness Center to be the beneficiary of the proceeds. This organization helps airmen and their families remain mission ready by providing programs such as the Air Force Aid Society, Family Life Education and Personal Financial Management" said, Tim Wong, President of Arcata. He continued, "As a supporter of youth education, especially in the area of science and technology, we chose to support Tehachapi High School's For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) Robotics Team. The nationally recognized program promotes a philosophy of teamwork and collaboration as well as professionalism among young people interested in engineering."
"We want to thank this year's Title sponsors Arcata and Wells Fargo Insurance Services as well as the many other sponsors who made this year's tournament a success including our Gold and Silver sponsors: Curiale, Hirschfeld, Kraemer LLP, Jenkins Athens Insurance Services, Nevada State Bank, SAIC, Kelly Gas, Chubb Insurance Company, Tybrin, Antelope Valley Hospital, Advantage Tax Service, United Space Alliance, Friends of Bob James, and Sierra Health Services," said Arcata Tournament Co-Director and Research Facilities & Engineering Support Services (RF&ESS) Program Manager, David Recce.
"What a wonderful experience when organizations, like Arcata, come together across the installation to better serve those who serve us - our active duty members and their families," said Jennifer Higgins, Team Lead, Edwards Airman and Family Readiness Center Edwards.
This year's Tournament offered over 85 raffle prizes and the opportunity to win $25,000 for a Hole in One. In addition, each participant received a team photograph, embroidered golf shirt and golf goodie bag.
