Test and Evaluation

We have supported test and evaluation in a number of ways, from capturing high definition video of propulsion systems to supporting final operational test and evaluation for the Air Force at Nellis AFB.

As a contractor to NASA, we support a System Integration Lab, Hardware-in the-Loop capability, and Installed System Test Facility, and are responsible for the design, engineering, operations and maintenance of the Western Aeronautical Test Range (WATR), NASA Dryden’s premier open air test range. The WATR supports aerospace research, science, and low-earth orbiting missions. Specific services include:

  • Range engineering and operations

  • Project requirement definition and analysis

  • Project mission coordination and scheduling

  • Algorithm development and implementation

  • Display definition and development

  • Mission control and ground systems operation

  • Range Safety data

  • Post-flight data processing

We have also designed, engineered and developed a new global network test and measurement capability, the Global Test Range. We engineer, operate, and maintain radar, telemetry, long range optics, communication and flight termination systems as well as real time data processing systems, and displays in mission control centers. We develop and maintain databases to capture data and provide this information to principal investigators/researchers.

Arcata also establishes plans and implements testing on NASA’s Orion crew exploration vehicle. Orion is part of the Constellation Program to send human explorers back to the moon, and then onward to Mars and other destinations in the solar system.

As a contractor to the Air Force, Arcata performs final operational test and evaluation (FOTE) on new range system software and hardware. We operate a system to provide real time weapons impact scoring. In addition, we also provide mission support for the war fighter by operating long range video cameras to support Time Space Positioning System (TSPI) missions, and provide special test documentation and safety documentation.
