Scientists are concerned about the depletion of the ozone layer as it protects humans from the sun’s radiation. This project studies how the updrafts of severe thunderstorms shooting through the stratosphere are impacting the earth’s ozone layer. Arcata photographers are documenting all aspects of the project from the installation of the 12 scientific instruments used to measure meteorological parameters, gases and particles into the ER-2, to the scientists analyzing data from the mission.
